Willowglen AD plant is ‘fed’ a mix of manure and crops from Greendale farm, together with rainwater harvested from farm buildings, to produce biogas and solid digestate. The biogas is used to create electricity for Greendale Business Park and the Farm Shop; the digestate becomes bio fertiliser, used on Greendale farmland instead of fossil fuel-based alternatives.
An innovative input mixture is used to feed our AD plant; consisting predominantly of cattle dung, the input now uses half the amount of specially-grown arable crops previously required, while maintaining a perfect balance of nutrients for maximum energy output.
Willowglen is based at Greendale Business Park, home to several enterprises that feed into one another to form a mini ‘circular economy’. Greendale’s farming enterprise produces the arable crops and manure that feed the AD plant, which in turn generates power for the Business Park, its tenants and for Greendale Farm Shop.
