Waterdance Fishing

Waterdance Fishing operates a fleet of more than 25 boats, based in Devon and Cornwall, including beam trawlers, netters and potters. The vessels land their catches regularly at Brixham, Salcombe, Exmouth and Newlyn ports which provide direct access to the western channel, where clean, deep waters and strong currents create the perfect environment for world-class seafood.

The Waterdance Fishing team includes 20 shore staff and 100 skilled ocean-going crew, who work together to keep fishing, storing and landing operations running safely and smoothly. Catches are sold at local fish markets in Brixham and Newlyn, as well as European wholesale markets, via sister company, Waterdance Trading, which also supplies fresh fish to Greendale Farm Shop and The Kings Arms, Otterton. Waterdance Fishing prioritises safety, compliance and sustainability; all vessels are flagged to the UK, where maritime safety standards are among the highest in the world.

Waterdance Fishing operates under fishing quotas designed to protect different fish species from overfishing in UK waters. The business remains committed to modernising its fleet, focusing on fuel consumption and reducing its overall environmental impact, whilst maximising catch quality. Catches are sold through local fish markets, keeping food miles low.

By employing over 120 seagoing staff, alongside shore-based engineering, logistics and administration teams, Waterdance Fishing supports jobs in coastal areas where opportunities can be limited. This helps strengthen local communities and generates wider regional income through suppliers, vessel maintenance, port dues, market fees and fish processing.

People

Waterdance prioritise crew comfort and safety throughout vessel and personal equipment including comfortable living quarters, emergency locator systems and lifejackets with Personal Locator Beacons. In partnership with South Devon College, Waterdance is helping to recruit and train the next generation of commercial fishermen and skippers.
