Greendale Farming has its own independent renewable energy supply, produced via an anaerobic digestion (AD) plant fuelled with a combination of livestock manure, harvested rainwater and crops, all from our farm; the biogas from the AD plant is used to create the electricity that powers Greendale Farm Shop and Greendale Business Park.

Animal welfare remains a top priority for Greendale Farming. Working to the Red Tractor Assurance for Farms scheme, Greendale staff strive at all times to treat animals with dignity and respect, following strict checks on all aspects of the animals’ lives. The humane treatment of animals is an indication of the high standards maintained across each of the farm’s different departments.

Greendale has been farming the East Devon countryside for more than five generations. Knowledge and experience have been handed down from father to son, continuing to inform our decisions every day as we farm into the 21st century. Tom Chanter heads up our farming operation and has extensive experience in livestock nutrition. He oversees both the cattle finishing and renewable energy enterprises at Greendale, connecting the two to create a mutually beneficial ecosystem.
