Georgina of Ladram has a special place in the south-west fishing fleet as the first new beam trawler to be built for the UK flag for almost twenty years, and the first for Brixham for thirty years. Its arrival in Brixham in June 2020 marked a milestone for Waterdance, and the fulfilment of the company’s long-held aspiration to build a new beam trawler. Built at the Luyt shipyard in the Netherlands, Georgina of Ladram combines the traditional functionality of the conventional beam trawler with new approaches to some aspects of its operation, not least low fuel consumption and emissions achieved with a high-efficiency propulsion system and painstaking design of the propeller, nozzle and the stern section to maintain the best possible flow of water.
